We visited the Smithsonian National Zoo in early May, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Between the sunshine and the beautiful grounds, it was a fantastic day to explore. The zoo has an incredible variety of animals, from lions and tigers to giant pandas and playful orangutans that kept us entertained for quite a while. We were impressed by how well-maintained everything was—the exhibits, walkways, and landscaping all looked great. Food was available throughout the park, and while the restrooms were a little harder to find than we expected, they were clean once we tracked them down. What impressed us most was that an attraction of this quality is completely free. We spent hours wandering the zoo and left feeling like we'd gotten an amazing experience. If you're visiting DC, this is absolutely worth adding to your list.

It’s hard to believe this zoo is completely free, especially considering the quality of the exhibits and the animals you can see here. The giant pandas alone are worth the visit — seeing them up close was a highlight and something you don’t get in many places. The zoo is fairly large and built on a hill, so be prepared for some walking, but the paths are well laid out and easy to follow. Many enclosures feel spacious and thoughtfully designed, and it never felt overly crowded when I visited on a weekday. Overall, this is an excellent stop in DC whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or family. Free admission, iconic animals like pandas, and a relaxed atmosphere make it one of the best-value attractions in the city.

This zoo is large and has a big variety of animals to explore. Our favorite was watching the pandas have breakfast. We visited on a weekday to try to avoid some crowds but we still got slammed with what appeared to be end of year field trips. These large groups of kids made it hard to enjoy some of the indoor exhibits due to noise levels and tighter spaces for viewing. Just be mindful of when you plan to visit. This is a popular spot for kids and families. We still enjoyed the zoo o stall. Exhibits are set up nice and there are often multiple locations to view the same animals to low everyone a chance to see what these creatures were uo too. We did have to get free passes in advance but that made access simple and quick! We did not eat in the park but did notice quite a few ice cream options throughout.

Had an amazing time at the Smithsonian National Zoo with family and friends. The zoo was clean, well organized, and full of incredible animals. The giant pandas were definitely the highlight of the visit. Great place for families, kids, and anyone who loves nature and wildlife. Best part — admission is free but you have to pay for parking. It’s our 5 time here. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Washington, DC.

This zoo is amazing!!! You are going to walk a lot, so come prepared, bring a lot of water and wear comfortable shoes. Arrive early, and plan to spend the whole day in the zoo. I recommend you to look and the map and plan where exactly you want to go. My tip will be go all the way down and start walking up slowly looking at all the animals. Also, it is not options for healthy and affordable food, so o recommend you to buy in advance and bring it with you. It is also some options at the entrance of the zoo, check them out. My favorites: elephants, pandas, big cats and the bird house.
