Curious Forker_Furious Corker a month agoA Hidden Gem with a Unique History and Stunning Views Located on Halsted between Chinatown and Pilsen, Palmisano Park is a fantastic escape that isn't far from downtown Chicago. It is very accessible—easy to bike to via a safe path or just a short drive if you are looking for a uniquely different perspective of the Chicago skyline. The park’s history is fascinating; it was built on a former landfill at the site of an old limestone quarry, which gives it a multi-level landscape you don’t often see in the city. There is a surprising amount of wildlife to enjoy; I spotted ducks, geese, and even a heron. While I’m not sure about the fishing, the park is always full of people out for a pleasant leisure walk. It’s a great spot if you want some nature and a bit of a climb for those skyline views!
Brittany Grant 2 weeks agoi stopped by on a weekday to get a walk in without spending anything, and it was a better stop than I expected. For a free park this close to the city, the mix of paved paths, hills, pond, and skyline views gives you a lot for the time. I liked how the old quarry layout makes it feel different from a typical flat neighborhood park, with bridges, prairie grass, and spots to sit. The pond had ducks and geese around, though the water was a little green... Still pleasant to walk past. Parking was easy when I went, and I’d come back for a quiet picnic or sunset walk.
Genesis Villalobos a month agoLovely park with lots of walking areas. Tennis/pickleball court was packed when we visited. I wish they would allow dogs though. If dogs are leashed and their owners clean up after them, I don’t see why dogs can’t be allowed ☹️
Mossviolen a month agoWe had an unexpected 12-hour layover in Chicago on our way to visit relatives in Minnesota. I have heard quite a lot of negative things about the city before, so I did not really expect much. But I must say, I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. We had just come from a transatlantic flight the day before, so we were fairly tired, but it was still surprisingly easy to go out and walk around for a few hours. The city felt more pleasant and relaxed than expected. The street food was really good, and I would say it is something you should not miss if you are there, even only for a short stay. We also spent some time in a few parks, which all were very nice and well-kept. Quite calm, actually, which was appreciated after travelling. Overall, it turned into a much better layover than we had planned for. I would happily stop in Chicago again if the opportunity comes up.
Songe Kvinsland 10 months agoReally nice place for hill time. Some algae in the pond, fish may not be visible. (Not for fishing, but for observation) We had a great time and would recommend everyone to come climb this hill! Bubbles recommended and kite if you have one
