Not as much shade as you would hope for, so probably better to take this in the morning or evening. There's several side trails for access to the creek. It is a waterfowl hunting area though, so be cautious. The trail map show there's a longer stretch of path towards the end but it's blocked by a closed fence and very heavily brushed, so that's where we turned around. Easy flat 4 miles

Excellent trail especially if you're a runner, basically goes about 2 miles out then 2 miles back with some smaller side trails that take you to the water. It is very remote though with thick woods lining both sides of the trail so probably take someone with you for safety.

Great place for birding! Lots of indigo buntings, hummingbirds, titmice, kingfisher, painted buntings, flycatchers (phoebes and kingbirds), herons, egrets, wrens/thrushes, turkey, etc. not many mosquitoes, but LOTS of ticks and chiggers. Mostly lone star tick, but there may be dog ticks here as well. bug spray will save you from plucking off 30 ticks to just 2 or 3. The trail is just over 5 miles, starting from the parking lot and ending underneath the highway. After the first 2 miles the trail narrows and you’ll do a bit of bushwhacking.

This place has all kinds of twisting turning trails off the main road. Loads of birds, squirrels, access to the river and beautiful scenery all around. I will definitely be back! No restroom facilities.
