Great place and area to observe nature. Hiked the Bald Cypress, Fox Run and Long Creek trails. Impressed to see so much Spanish Moss as far north as Virginia. Long Creek trail was the most scenic and where most of the Spanish Moss is. Also able to see swamps, loblolly pine, lizards and small bodies of water. Staff at entrance are very helpful with finding what you're looking for. Visitor Center is helpful as well. Glad I took time to visit this unique state park!

This is the best park in Hampton Roads. Miles of well maintained hiking trails that cover the entire park. There is also beach access on the opposite side of the park. There is a $10 fee on weekends on busy tourist months, but only $7 any other time. The fee is for a good cause as it helps maintain the park as they receive no federal funding. This park offers plenty of water views, wildlife, cypress trees, and the northern-most population of Spanish Moss. Plenty of turtles, lizards, and waterbirds, including blue herons and white egrets. I’ve actually seen a couple bald eagles here. I have hiked every trail here, and they are all very well maintained. All the trails are easy in difficulty, but they are really never crowded. If you go deep enough into the park, you’ll probably only encounter a few people total, which is very nice for such a crowded area. There also seem to be plenty of places to swim and fish along the trails. They also have a boat launch in the southernmost portion of the park. They also have plenty of events throughout the year for families. Highly recommended checking this place out!

I've been coming to First Landing State Park for as long as I can remember. Long before many people knew it by its current name, I knew it as Seashore State Park. It was a place for quiet reflection, exercise, adventure, and moments when I simply needed to get away from the noise of everyday life. Over the years, Virginia Beach has changed dramatically. The cost of living and amount of infrastructure development have risen to the point that I eventually had to move away. While many things that once felt familiar have changed, First Landing remains one of the strongest connections. I sincerely hope that visitors from across the country and around the world will bring their families here, make memories of their own, and discover the same sense of comfort, wonder, and connection that this park has given me throughout my life.

Took a chance & booked site 137 for Spring Break weekend and First Landing State Park did not disappoint! Our site had electricity/water hookup and our popup camper fit on the site well. The bathhouse was a short walk from our campsite and it was always clean. The sites did have poison ivy, so that was something we had to stay aware of especially traveling with our dog. The walk to the beach was maybe about 10 minutes and was so worth it! It was never crowded and we enjoyed watching the sunset our last night there where the dolphins put on a show for us!

We had a great experience at site 140. This was a particularly spacious and private site surrounded by live oak trees and a 5 m walk to the beach. The grounds were clean and staff was friendly. We loved the dunes and beach. You are warned when you arrive that there is a military base. They played music in the mornings and evenings and you could occasionally hear military practice or see them marching the perimeter. It was unexpected but after awhile, it became part of our routine. The extensive trail system nearby is fantastic. We did have to drive there and one day, parking was a challenge. But the actual trails were fab! We would love to return some day.
