Best local Oakland hike that is an unknown to most people. 1.5 hours and your wiped out. Great views, great shade, excellent redwood forest to relax in. The oldest old growth redwood (Old Survivor) is on this trail but it is hidden. Try to find it with your eyes when you reach the overlook.

When I want a challenging short hike in less than an hour, this is where I go. The path is always changing and people typically bring their dogs. I like the mural work on the path back to the car. There’s a loop I like to do that drops me off right at the yellow fire road gate. It can be dangerous at night if you don’t have a headlamp and it’s got an amazing view at the top during the day. Sometimes you can encounter wildlife and from the top of the trail, you can reach Merritt College! This is a fun spot to reflect and get in a solid workout.

Cool park and set of trails up in the Oakland hills. I read an article in the local paper about the ruins of a local century old mining operation nestled there somewhere - that have been artfully decorated by local artists. The ruins weren’t that interesting, but they were easy enough to find. Overall though, the trails were still great. So - definitely recommend a visit.

Great hiking place, very narrow trail, I don’t suggest to take little kids because it can dangerous since there’s a creek below as you hike the trail up high, you start with all uphill, not too far of a hike. Beautiful view of the bay at the top. Limited parking
