Megan Flores a month agoVisited with my husband and 3 kids (ages 4, 3, and 20 months) on a holiday weekend around 9 a.m. There are two entrances — we used the one off Franklin Rd. This parking lot is smaller, but we were surprised to find a spot easily. When we left around 10:45, there was a line of about 6 cars waiting, though cars seemed to move through fairly quickly. There is a nice bathroom at the top of the parking lot. From this entrance, you can also access the trail along the lake, though strollers and dogs are not allowed on that trail. We chose the lower paved trail instead (part of the mulch trail loop). It’s wide — almost road-sized — and newly paved the entire way. It took about 15 minutes to reach the lake, and there’s plenty more paved trail beyond that. We saw frogs, ducks, turtles, deer, an owl, and even a bald eagle. My kids stayed engaged the whole time. The trail was flat and easy for stroller pushing, and my older kids rode scooters without any issues. There were lots of families, dogs, and walkers out, but it never felt overcrowded. Overall, this is a great near-the-city option for getting young kids into nature without dealing with steep terrain. The other entrance off Granny White has the visitor center and a bit more parking.
Terrie Clayton 3 months agoWe went to see the eagles nest there. It is a beautiful place. The walking trails are very nice. Covered with wood chips for very easy walking. Lots of trails and lots of beauty to see. It’s one of the best I have ever been to. Lots of parking. I highly recommend going to visit. Lake is beautiful. You can actually take a hiking trail that goes all the way around the lake. Places to stop and rest if needed. Very well kept. Dog friendly. Your kids will love it. Very safe place to get out and walk as you enjoy the beauty of nature. I will definitely be visiting more often. Take a backpack with water and snacks with you. Trails are stroller friendly also. It’s just an amazing place!
Benjamin Feehan a month agoBeautiful park, though very crowded on the weekends. Parking is limited at the main entrance with very little posted directions for how to proceed. Lots of wildlife. Multiple varieties of turtles, frogs, salamanders, squirrels and chipmunk, woodpeckers, raptors and even turkeys spotted on an initial visit and hike around the lake. Main trail is very easy.
Bob Meyer 3 months agoGreat place to take a walk. Nice paved path along the lake or a trail a little above it that runs along the lake. Saw a bald eagle in its nest across the lake. Heard an owl. Saw some deer, birds, ducks and a turtle.
Rob English 2 months agoVery nice park and lake. Foot traffic is restricted to the trails so don’t expect to be able to walk down to the lake. We saw eagles during our hike which was nice. Nice clean visitors center with park history and other information.
