We found Samuel Square to be a nice park in a really beautiful area. Napoleon Avenue divides the park to two pieces. The upriver part seems a little larger and is more geared towards small children and families. There is nice playground equipment and several very beautiful oak trees. The downriver part is a multi purpose field and green area, apparently more for sports use.

It was ok. Below basic. The park needs an upgrade. Not impressed the turf was in disrepair. No swings. Very basic playground. It entertained a 3 year old and an 8 month old. No water fountains.No picnic tables. Only one park bench. What happens if you have more than 6 people at the park. Not wheelchair accessible for children. Not friendly for the blind or visually impaired persons. No water fountain or bathroom facilities.

We stayed on the downtown side of the park (east of Napoleon). It is a nice sized field with a basketball court and several big shady trees covering a few benches. Our dogs loved roaming around and getting all their sniffs in, plus a few great games of fetch & we met a couple other friendly pups! It is not fenced in, and it butts up to Napoleon, so it would not be a great place for an untrained dog. But if your dog is decently behaved, this is a good spot to roam! As some have previously mentioned, it would be wonderful for those who bring their dogs to try and pick up after their pets.
